DOT Physicals

HOLT CHIROPRACTIC DOES DOT PHYSICALS

If you drive most kinds of commercial vehicles in Texas, you want to keep up with your DOT physicals for a very basic reason: if you don't, your driver's license can be downgraded from Class A or Class B to Class C, which takes away your right to drive a commercial vehicle. Even if you drive one of the classes of commercial vehicles that doesn't require a certificate from your medical exam, like a school bus, you are still required to meet the requirements for a medical certificate. Holt Chiropractic, serving Bay City and the surrounding areas of Sweeny, Palacios, and Blessing, can do your physical to allow you to keep your commercial driver's license.

What does your chiropractor check during your DOT exam?

At Holt Chiropractic, Dr. Holt will check every aspect of your basic health the state requires, including:

  • Blood pressure issues. If you have mild to moderately elevated blood pressure, the Texas Department of transportation (TxDOT) encourages you to lower it naturally. Dr. Holt can prescribe a program to get your blood pressure down. Be sure to avoid energy drinks and coffee before your physical so your blood pressure won't be unnaturally high.
  • Breathing issues. Dr. Holt will determine whether you have obstructive sleep apnea or asthma. The doctor will help you control these issues to enable you to pass your DOT physical.
  • Diabetes. Part of every DOT exam is confirming that you have an acceptable blood glucose level. If you have diabetes, you will need to be under medical care to keep your license. If your blood sugar was too high or too low at a previous physical, let Dr. Holt know so he can work with you to normalize your blood sugar levels so you won't fail your physical.
  • Hearing. The TxDOT has clear requirements for auditory acuity. You have to be able to hear a whisper from 5 feet away, about the distance across your cab. This is also an issue Dr. Holt can help you correct.
  • Weight. Being overweight doesn’t disqualify you for commercial driving in Texas, but Dr. Holt can help you deal with issues that it can cause.

The Texas Department of Public Safety requires drug and alcohol testing for everyone who drives a commercial vehicle. Dr. Holt can give you advice on these issues.

You Don't Have to Go to an Expensive Occupational Health Specialist

In Texas, your chiropractor can do the DOT physical you need to get a med card. The advantage of going to a chiropractor is chiropractic care is care that looks at you, not just a list of health conditions. Your chiropractor won't just certify that you are healthy enough to drive a commercial vehicle. Your chiropractor can help you overcome the conditions that may be holding you back.
